In Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, you can find the breathtaking indigo of its exterior walls harmonizing perfectly with the cerulean blue sky. In fact, behind every design, there is existence of “feng shui” perfection. This “feng shui” observation is indeed very truth because there are many “feng shui” symbols can be found meticulously incorporated into the architecture of this courtyard mansion, if you know where to look.

Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion has been awarded “Most Excellent Project UNESCO”, Asia Pacific Heritage Awards 2000, and was built by Cheong Fatt Tze in 1880, a master craftsmen and a merchant-trader from China using building materials imported from the west. It is a rare surviving example of the grandiose architectural style preferred by wealthy overseas Chinese trying to imitate the opulence of the Ching dynasty. Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion has magnificent 38 rooms, 5 granite-paved courtyards, 7 staircases and 220 windows.
The mansion fell from grace a few years after the passing of its owner and was for a while even used as a tenement house. It wasn’t until 1990 when a group of heritage preservationists rushed to its rescue. Ten years later, a cost of USD 2 million restoration of the Cheong Fatt Tze mansion deservedly won the UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) Asia Pacific Heritage Award 2000.
