One of the popular tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur is the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park (or locally Taman Burung Kuala Lumpur). It is a 20.9 acres aviary which has more than 5000 birds from around 160 species local and foreign birds. The birds include Flamingos, Hornbills, Peacocks, Waterhens, Parrots, Cockatoos, Storks, Pheasants, Mynahs Pigeons, and Macaws just to name a few.
Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is established in 1991 and it is located adjacent to the famous Kuala Lumpur Lake Garden, about 10 minute driving from Kuala Lumpur City Centre. In addition, Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is well known as “The world’s Largest Covered Bird Park” or “The World’s Largest Free Flight Aviary“.
The unique of Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is that birds in 3 out of 4 zones are let free in the aviary which resembles the natural habit. Only birds in zone 4 are placed in separate cages and mini aviaries. This type of free flight concept has allowed the birds to breed naturally. Perhaps, this concept is the best way to ensure the birds’ survival and species continuity. Apart from that, visitors can experience the resemblance of life in the tropical rainforest and watching colourful and melodic birds perching and winging freely while relaxing in a natural and beautifully landscaped surrounding. By the way, Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is also reputed to be “The World Largest Walk-In Free-Flight Aviary”.
Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is an ideal place for family and friends and even company outing. Visitors can find birds show and birds feeding like Hornbills Feeding, Lorries Feeding, Ostrich Feeding, Eagles Feeding, and Milky Stork Feeding. The birds show time is at 12:30pm and 3:30pm Daily and additional at 10:30am on Public Holidays.
Birds in Kuala Lumpur Bird Park are wild birds. Therefore, it is not good to disturb or frighten some birds that have sharp bills and claws, they can bite hard without warning. There are many photogenic spots in the bird park that visitors can take photos especially the bird park highlighted hornbills. They are not so frightened and will (mostly) wait till you have taken a picture. Near the Hornbills park is the Hornbill Souvenirs Shop and the Hornbill Restaurant & Café. It is located on the top of a hill where visitors can have a spectacular view to see the hornbills flying.
Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is easily accessible by taxi and there are plenty of taxis waiting outside to bring visitors back to hotel. The bird park is near other attractions such as the Orchid Gardens, Butterfly Farm, Deer Park, and Hibiscus Garden where visitors can drop a visit.
Advice from the editor: While visiting to the bird park, it would be a good idea to bring along the insect repellent.
